The Museum of Discovery offers exciting summer day camps suitable for ages 4 to 13. Below is a sampling of past camps. Can’t wait for Summer 2011? Try our Saturday Day Camps and our School Break Day Camps.

Summer Camps Offered in 2010:

Alice’s Wonderland and other Fantasies
In conjunction with the Museum’s exhibit Alice’s Wonderland, this summer camp allows campers to “go through the looking glass,” play croquet with the Queen of Hearts and experience the science of your favorite fantasy tales.

Aliens Follow the Earth’s Compass
Become an alien scientist who lands on planet Earth. Your mission is to “gather intel” about Planet Earth’s animals, plants and insects. Your home planet expects the results of your experiments to be fully reported!

Crazy Critter
This is the perfect camp for the wee one who loves animals. You’ll meet members of the Museum’s animal family such as hedgehogs and rabbits and learn what makes each animal special.

Cyber Stuff
Ultimate technology engages your camper in (safely) using advanced software and internet-based programs. Activities include using SKYPE to communicate with classes, schools, authors and illustrators around the world, and using MovieMaker to create a screencast, podcast or video. NOTE: Each child must provide a laptop with a wireless card to connect to the internet.

Frontier Survival
Do you have a young explorer on your hands? This camp explores the skills needed to survive in the wild pioneer days. Campers will make candles and other survival objects, and discover if they are best suited to be a settler, a fur trapper, or a traveler.

Hola! Mexico!
Immerse yourself in Mexican crafts, language, food and culture as you plan your own fiesta for the final day of camp.

I Didn’t Mean to Break it!
How are Slinkies, yoyos and other toys made? We’ll figure it out by taking things apart and putting them back together. Invent and design a toy or improve on one of your favorites. Pack your imagination for this camp.

Junior MD
Calling all future doctors! Learn about the human body by dissecting a heart and other activities that explore the wonders of your body.

Junior Vet
From hedgehogs to alligators, animals need doctors too! Meet members of the Museum’s animal family and learn about the amazing world of animals through the eyes of a veterinarian.

Oh, Rubbish!
Organic farming, composting, reducing, recycling and reusing are ways we can all care for our world and its creatures. Learn about endangered species and successful, innovative ways to protect the environment in your own neighborhood. We’ll even have fun with junk!

Photo-Op
Can you picture it? Photography is more than “point and shoot.” Learn from a real pro and create your own masterpieces.
Poop Happens! Ages 9-13
Yes, everybody poops, and it’s important to the health of living creatures and our environment. Learn about some of the gross things that animals and humans do, reconstruct diets, and learn how Mother Nature says number 2!!

Science and Engineering
Take apart a computer, build a bridge that can hold your weight and discover the scientific principles behind toys. Put your mind in motion as these and other experiments explore everyday items.

Science and Technology
Especially designed for our older science and engineering campers. Favorite activities from the all-day camp are offered at a higher skill level to engage more sophisticated minds.

Science Palooza
From Kitchen Chemistry to Crazy Critters, every day is different — perfect for the youngster who is into everything and can’t decide what to be as a grownup. Come for the week or just a few days.

Spy Kids
Channel your inner CSI agent as you compare invisible ink, crack codes, and learn to see without being seen. Campers will use night vision goggles and other cool spy gear.

The Big Chill
Arkansas summers are hot, but we’re “gonna keep it cool.” What happened during the last Ice Age? What causes the severe winter weather? What happens to different things at super cold temperatures? Find out at this camp.

Weird Science
Try your hand at weird and wacky creations while learning the basics of chemistry and meeting strange animals who share the world with us. Just try to keep up with the fast pace of this varied week of experiments and amazing activities.

You want to be an …ologist?
The world of science offers many careers in paleontology, biology, ecology, entomology, anthropology, zoology, and more! Discover which job may be best for you.
