Q&A with Kevin Delaney

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in New Jersey, relocated to New England and lived in Providence, RI, until 2011. I hitched my wagon to an Arkansan long ago – and knew I’d end up here sooner or later. I’m happy to call Arkansas home.
What was your initial reaction the first time you heard Arkansas Razorback fans “calling the Hogs”?
I was confused and waiting for a group of actual pigs to come running out. Turns out the call was coming from an oversized novelty ballpoint pen. It’s much better in person. Woo Pig Sooie!!!
Were you born with that beard?
The beard actually was born first and then grew a man.
Favorite planet?
I’m really into Saturn right now.
Do you believe Pluto should still be a planet?
I do, because of my emotional attachment to the little guy. I’m afraid, though, that if we look at the cold, hard facts it’s really just a cold hard rock and not a planet. Sorry, Pluto.
What do you love about working at the Museum of Discovery?
I love that as science and technology continue to grow, I am fortunate enough to be able to constantly learn how fascinating and surprising the universe is.
What did you want to do when you grew up?
I wanted to write ghost stories. Specifically, I wanted to live at the beach in a haunted lighthouse and write horrifying stories about all of my ghost roommates.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon.
If you had a race horse, what would you name it?
My Lovely Horse
What’s your biggest rational fear?
Lightning.  I’m very afraid that I will someday be struck by lightning.
What your biggest irrational fear?
How irrationally afraid of lightning I am. I really do not want to be struck by lightning.
What’s the corniest science joke you’ve ever told?
Two radio friends of mine got married.  The ceremony was nice … but the reception was awesome.
